2014 Our House, Inc. 5 Miler

I had the pleasure of being a part of the Our House, Inc. Annual 5 Miler again this year.  Having run this race a few years back, I can definitely say that taking pictures is much easier than running!  This race is an annual event that has been taking place the first Sunday of May for the last 12 years.  All proceeds go to Our House, Inc. which is a great organization that I have been working with for many years.  This year, John Elliott of CBS News was on-hand to be the master of ceremony.  John has been volunteering his time with Our House over the past two years and he is an amazing guy – very down to earth and a genuine, caring individual.    John kicked off the 5 mile race with the Mayor of Summit and later called the Everybody’s A Winner race for Our House clients.  It was a great day!   Here is some more information on Our House as well as a link where you can learn more as well as find out how to get involved or donate.

Founded in 1980, Our House, Inc. is a private, non-profit 501(c) 3 organization that provides residential, employment and recreational services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Their first home opened in 1980 in Summit, NJ, and they have steadily grown to 27 residences throughout Union, Essex, Somerset and Morris Counties.

The goal of Our House, Inc. is to promote a high quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities. Services are designed to be flexible, in order to meet each individual’s unique needs. A strong emphasis is placed on enhancing community involvement and participation, as well as helping individuals develop meaningful connections to community life. Individuals are encouraged to make independent choices about their lives, with support from trained and caring staff.
