My daughter’s soccer team playing in a Halloween tournament and State Cup playoff game this past weekend was the perfect chance to tryout my new Panasonic Lumix G9 camera and 50-100 f2.8-4 lens. The games were all mid-day and the light was ever changing from bright sun to dark clouds. That and the always busy backgrounds provided a great opportunity to really see what this camera is capable of.
The verdict – it met all of my expectations. I went with the G9 to get a camera that was light weight with quality auto focus and that didn’t break the bank. Add the 50-200 f2.8-4.0 lens (100-400 “35 equivalent”) and it is a great combo for the parent who still wants high quality images but is not trying to compete with the pros and their 1dx and $10k+ gear.
Here are some images from the games. Mostly show manual with auto, continuous AF with a custom AF area that was like a center diamond shape. Kept shutter speeds mostly in the 1500-2k range and aperture around 5.
